CALDWELL, Idaho – The Bushnell University women's basketball team battled their way to a 66-61 road win over the College of Idaho in Friday evening's Cascade Collegiate Conference game.
Â
Head Coach
Chad Meadors said, "It's hard to win on the road and we found a way to get it done. Aspen was huge for us all night long and Mandy had some huge shots for us. The College of Idaho punched us in the nose early and it took a while for our defense to settle in. I was impressed with how our guards rebounded in the second half and how we played together. It was a really fun game to play in and a great atmosphere."
Â
The College of Idaho (9-18, 9-12 CCC) got out to an early 18-12 advantage in the first quarter but Bushnell (16-11, 12-9) opened the second with a 10-2 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Beacons entered the break up by two, 35-33.
Â
After a back-and-forth beginning to the second half, Bushnell extended its advantage to nine, 51-42, at the end of the third period. The Beacons led 65-57 following a three-pointer from
Mandy Sisul with under two minutes to play. A Yotes' free throw and a three narrowed the margin to four with 19 seconds on the clock, but the C of I was unable to cut the deficit any further.Â
Â
Aspen Slifka led the way for the Beacons, finishing with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Mandy Sisul recorded 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting, scoring 13 in the second half.
Libby Mathis added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Â
The Yotes were led by Kylie Waltermeyer, who posted 17 points on the night. Brooke Beresford finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Mia Austin recorded a team-high eight boards.
Â
Up next, Bushnell takes on Eastern Oregon on Saturday at 3:00 for the regular season finale. The Beacons will play the Mountaineers again on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in a CCC Quarterfinal matchup.
