Beacons Honor Seniors in Final Home Game

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Tech earned their eighth-straight victory on Saturday night, defeating the Bushnell women's basketball team, 67-57, in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
 
Oregon Tech (23-3, 17-3 CCC), who is ranked No. 25, shot 51.0% from the field and was led by Olivia Sprague's 17 points and nine rebounds. Tatum Schmerbach finished with 13 points and five assists, while Jozie Ramos added 10 points off the bench.
 
Bushnell (15-11, 11-9) led 20-17 after the first quarter but was held to six points in the second to go into the break down by eight, 34-26. The Owls led the rest of the way, extending the margin to as many as 15 in the fourth quarter.
 
The Beacons shot 40.4% from the floor, including 8-of-22 from beyond the arc. Aspen Slifka led the team with 14 points. Ayden Krupke recorded 12 points, while Aly Mirabile and Libby Mathis finished with nine points apiece.
 
OIT finished with a wide margin in rebounding, 37-23.

Up next, Bushnell wraps up the regular season with games at the College of Idaho (Feb. 23) and Eastern Oregon (Feb. 24).

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Saturday was the final home game for the Beacons and their chance to honor seniors Aly Mirabile and Aspen Slifka.


Aly MirabileALY MIRABILE: Aly has been with the Beacons for four seasons and in that time has played in 91 games. She ranks in Bushnell's top-ten all-time in five categories, and is 16th all-time for scoring with 604 points. She has 358 assists is just 12 away from moving into second place on the all-time list. As a freshman, Aly was named the CCC Freshman of the Year and she has been a member of the athletic director's honor roll in each of the past two seasons.






Aspen SlifkaASPEN SLIFKA: Aspen Slifka has had an historic five-year career with the Beacons and has played in 124 games which ranks second all-time. She is also second in Beacon history for minutes, field goals, field goal attempts, three pointers, steals, and points scored and she already own the all-time record for three-point attempts. Aspen has scored 1763 points in her career and needs 68 points to become Bushnell's all-time leading scorer. Aspen is a four-time First-Team All-CCC selection, and has twice been named the team MVP. Aspen finished her undergraduate teaching degree last spring with a 4.0 GPA. Among her numerous academic honors, she was twice named the Bushnell Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and at graduation was named the winner of the President's Scholastic Award.
