No. 4 Southern Oregon Defeats Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell's shooting woes continued on Saturday night against the No. 4-ranked team in the country as Southern Oregon University took a 67-37 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The Beacons (4-7, 3-2 CCC) shot just 22% from the field, and put themselves in a huge hole as they went just 1-for-17 from the field in the first quarter and were outscored 16-2. Things didn't get much better in second frame allowing the Raiders to take a 42-12 lead into the intermission as the Beacons tied a futility record for a single-half, scoring just 12 points to equal a mark set in 2004.

Bushnell responded well after the intermission, matching SOU point-for-point, and ended the night holding the Raiders under 70 points for just the third time during their season-long 11-game winning streak.

Southern Oregon (11-0, 5-0) were led by Morgan Baird, scoring 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Emma Schmerbach added 13 points and eight rebounds while Eliza DiGiulio came off the bench to score ten. Mallory Williams added a game-high nine rebounds and Clara Robbins earned three blocks and three steals.

For the first time this season Bushnell failed to have a player reach double-digits as Libby Mathis posted a team-high with nine points and five rebounds. Maddie Gerhart added six points and Mandy Sisul pitched in with five points and five boards.

Bushnell will take a nine-day break for Christmas, returning to action on December 30th when they play host to Corban University (4-7, 2-3) at 5:30 pm.
