EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team shot just 27% from the field on Friday as they were defeated by Oregon Tech in Cascade Collegiate Conference action, 62-49.
Â
The Beacons (4-6, 3-1 CCC) were led by
Libby Mathis who posted a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points along with 12 rebounds. The fifth-year senior hit the first three-pointer of her career in the second half and collected seven offensive rebounds, a career high and the most by a Beacon since 2019.
Â
Bushnell finished the night with a 44-43 rebounding margin and earned an 11-9 edge in second-chance points. The Owls, however, dominated inside with a 40-18 lead in points in the paint.
Â
Also scoring in double-figures for the Beacons was
Ayden Krupke with ten points and seven rebounds while
Ellis Mastel came off the bench to score eight points and six boards.
Â
Oregon Tech (7-3, 3-1), currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, shot 43% from the field and had seven blocks in the game from six different players. Gabbie Gascon led the team with 16 points, adding nine assists and seven rebounds, while Kennedy Tull scored 11. Alexis Elquist posted eight points and led all players with 14 rebounds.
Â
"OIT broke down our defense tonight and that really hurt," said head coach
Chad Meadors. "We fought and we battled and did some good things. We did a good job of following through and getting the ball inside, but you can't go 18-for-57 against a team like that and win. They made us take some tough shots, but if we hit some of the bunnies that we missed early on, it could have been a different game."
Â
The Beacons will have a quick turnaround for their next contest, taking on No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon University (10-0, 4-0) at 3:00 pm. The Raiders are the lone undefeated team remaining in the Cascade Conference after defeating Corban on Friday evening.
