Linfield Pulls Away in Second Half

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield University remained undefeated, pulling away with a 25-7 third quarter to defeat the Bushnell women's basketball team in Sunday's non-conference contest, 70-50.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "Linfield is a good team. We got behind early but had a group bring us back and get us to halftime. We had some good energy but couldn't maintain it and got pushed off our spots defensively. Linfield is well coached and a really solid team who is going to do well in the Northwest Conference."

Linfield (9-0, 0-0 NWC), an NCAA Division III school, shot 53.1% and was led by Allie Mead who finished with 15 points and eight assists. Miki Vermeulen added 13 points, hitting a pair of threes, and Tana Hoekema recorded 12 points off the bench. The Wildcats hit five of their six three-pointers in the third quarter run and finished the game with a 36-18 margin in points in the paint.

Bushnell (4-5, 3-0 CCC) shot 37.3% in the game, and made 5-of-17 from beyond the arc. Libby Mathis led the Beacons with 12 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field and added a team-high five rebounds. Mandy Sisul finished with 11 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers. Ayden Krupke added nine points and two steals, and Ellis Mastel recorded eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.

"We got to see some real ball pressure tonight and with the week coming up, I'm glad we got to see that," said Meadors. "There are going to be some ups and downs on trying to figure out who we are, and tonight was one of those. Now we can go to work, improve and get better. I'm excited for this upcoming weekend."

The Beacons return to action next weekend, hosting (RV) Oregon Tech (6-3, 2-1) and No. 4 Southern Oregon (9-0, 3-0) in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
