Beacons End Year with a Draw

EUGENE, Ore.  – For the second year in a row, Bushnell played to a 1-1 draw with Rocky Mountain College, this time in the season finale for the Beacons.

Following the second Senior Day celebration for the women, the Beacons came out inspired, playing to a 0-0 score through the first 84 minutes, despite a big shot advantage for the Bears.

It was Bushnell who would break through first, scoring in the 85th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Lorelai Murphy sent a perfect free kick serve from beyond midfield, dropping into Emily Puita at the top of the box. Puita wasted no time, chipping the ball over the Rocky keeper for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The goal was also the 13th of Puita's career, lifting her into part of a three-way tie for third on Bushnell's career scoring list.  She has scored the most goals for a Beacon in nine years.

Unfortunately for the upset-minded Beacons, who were looking for their first-ever win against RMC, Rocky would pull off an improbable goal just 45 seconds later as Emma Lensing punched in the equalizer on a breakaway.

The Bears (8-5-2, 6-4-2 CCC) finished the regular season in fifth-place in the CCC after out-shooting the Beacons 20-9 with a 9-5 advantage in shots-on-goal.

The Beacons (5-12-1, 3-8-1 CCC) got eight more saves from senior goalkeeper Lexi Bates. Bushnell finished the year in tenth place.

It was the end of an era for Bushnell who will say goodbye to 20 seniors. Head Coach Halle Meadows said, "This group of seniors will be greatly missed, but they have started something that we will be able to build off of for years to come."
