EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell women's soccer team started strong on Saturday, but couldn't put together a full 90 minutes against one of the top-rated teams in the CCC, falling to Eastern Oregon University, 3-1.
The Mounties (6-4-3, 5-3-1 CCC) out-shot the Beacons 19-3 in the contest, with just one shot-on-goal. That shot came in the 29th minute as
Emily Puita scored an unassisted goal to give Bushnell the early advantage.
Stephanie Llanos fed a perfect through ball from the midfield to Puita, creating a breakaway. Puita was able to put a chip in past the goalkeeper with a defender giving chase, used her speed to catch back up to the ball in the box to fire in the empty-netter for her fourth goal of the season.
The Beacons took the 1-0 lead into the intermission, but unfortunately it was all EOU from there, scoring goals in the 49th, 65th, and 69th minutes.
For the Beacons (5-12, 3-8) the loss meant officially falling out of playoff contention as they have just one game remaining and too many points need to catch up to eighth-place in the CCC.
Bushnell will close out the 2024 season next weekend with a pair of Senior Day games. First, the Reserve squad will take on Walla Walla University on Friday at 12:00 pm, before the Varsity team officially ends the year against Rocky Mountain on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
