Beacons Upset by Oregon Tech

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team was swept by an unranked opponent for just the second time this season on Saturday, losing to Oregon Tech at home, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.

The Owls (15-11, 8-10 CCC) dominated in nearly every aspect of the game, hitting .118 and holding a 55-41 advantage in points scored. Half of Oregon Tech's other points came by way of 11 Bushnell service errors.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "We were outplayed in all phases tonight. Tech came ready to play and we weren't prepared to play at the level necessary to win. We will need to have a good week of practice to prepare for the Washington schools next weekend."

The Beacons (16-10, 11-7) were led in the defeat by the outside-hitting duo of Hailey Heider and Amyah Semau who each had double-doubles and combined for 21 kills, 27 digs, and four service aces. Heider owned a match-high 11 kills. Bella Parque added a team-high 17 digs, Katie Belitz had 15 assists, and Makenna Mosher added five blocks.

Oregon Tech was led by nine kills apiece from Molly Grace and Lex Boccia, with the former adding 12 digs and the latter earning five of OIT's 13 blocks. Lucy Boyd added a match-high 28 assists while Kaley Whalen earned a match-leading 26 digs.

For the Beacons it was their first CCC loss this season against a team other then the three NAIA Top-Ten teams ahead of them, and it came with just two weeks remaining in the season and The College of Idaho nipping at their heels for the all-important fourth-place spot in the conference standings.

With two weekends remaining, Bushnell holds a half-game lead over the Yotes and a one-game lead over Lewis-Clark State. The top-four teams in the final CCC standings will have a bye into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament and will not compete in a play-in game.

Bushnell will close out the home portion of the schedule next weekend, playing host to Northwest on Friday at 6:00 pm and Evergreen on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
