Beacons Falter Late Against Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore.  – Warner Pacific scored twice in the final four and a half minutes, stealing a victory from the arms of defeat on Friday with a 2-1 win over Bushnell.

The Beacons had scored the game's first goal in the 53rd minute as Javier Gutierrez fired home a strike off a perfect combo pass from Francisco Cayolla and Brady Housley.

Looking to end a seven-game losing streak to the Knights (8-5, 4-4), Bushnell was just four minutes and 27 seconds away from the victory when a disastrous set of circumstances transpired.

Craig Stephenson tied the game off a pass from Sergio Varela and then, with just 15 seconds remaining, Bushnell was called for a foul in the box, setting up a game-winning penalty kick from Pedro Calderon.

Bushnell (6-4-3, 2-4-2 CCC) was out-shot 10-3 in the game and capitalized on their only shot-on-goal. WPU had six shot attempts in the second half, with all six coming after Bushnell had taken the lead.

The Beacons will play their final road game of the season on Saturday, staying in Portland to take on Multnomah University at 2:30 pm. The Lions (5-5-2, 3-3-2) played to a 2-2 draw with Corban on Friday.
