WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Bushnell (12-8, 8-6 CCC) is coming off three wins last week against Corban, Multnomah, and Warner Pacific. After three straight games at home, the Beacons head on the road to face Northwest and Evergreen.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: On January 29, senior guard Aspen Slifka earned her second Rize Laboratory Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Slifka had an incredible week for the Beacons, averaging 25 points per game across three games, including a 30-point performance in a win against Corban. During the week, she shot 51.8 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from three, secured 19 rebounds and 11 assists.
 
RECORDS AND MILESTONES: Over the weekend, senior guard Aly Mirabile climbed into the top-20 in career scoring for Bushnell with 581 points. Mirabile is also sitting at third all-time with 333 career assists.
 
CONFERENCE OUTLOOK: With just eight games left in the regular season, the top five teams in the CCC are the only teams above .500 in conference play. No. 7 LC State leads the way at 13-1, their only conference loss coming from the Beacons. Right behind them are No. 22 Oregon Tech and No. 24 Southern Oregon, sitting at 11-2 in conference.
 
Bushnell is currently fifth in the CCC, just one game behind Eastern Oregon for the fourth seed and a potential home playoff game.
 
The Beacons are currently ranked ninth in the CCC in scoring, averaging 61.5 points per game. On defense, Bushnell is fourth, allowing 59.5 ppg, while holding opponents to a fourth-best 36.4% from the floor. The team is third in field goal percentage (.415) and blocks (3.7 bpg).
 
Individually, Aspen Slifka is leading the CCC with 20.8 points per game in conference action. Slifka is also top-20 in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and top-ten in steals per game (2.1 spg). Libby Mathis is ninth in scoring (15.6 ppg), second in blocks per game (2.1 bpg), and leads the conference in field-goal percentage (.574) and rebounding (13.4 rpg).  Aly Mirabile is currently leading the conference in assists (4.4 apg) while all five Bushnell starters rank in the top-ten in the CCC for minutes played.
 
NORTHWEST: The Eagles (5-15, 5-9 CCC) are currently tied for seventh in conference with Evergreen and College of Idaho. They are coming off a 68-65 win at Evergreen on Tuesday.
 
The Eagles are averaging 62.8 points per game, which ranks sixth in the CCC. They are 11th defensively, allowing 72.8 ppg.
 
Maya DuChesne leads Northwest in scoring at 11.6 points per game, which ranks 20th overall in the CCC. Senior post Kylie Lunday leads the team in the paint, averaging 11.4 ppg and is fourth in the CCC in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game.  
 
Bushnell defeated the Eagles in the Morse Center in their first match up on January 6, 60-44. The Beacons hold a 17-15 edge in the all-time series and have seven of the last eight.
 
EVERGREEN: The Geoducks (5-11, 5-9 CCC) are coming off a 68-65 loss at home to Northwest. The Geoducks have been playing better basketball as of late, winning three of their last six games after winning just two of their first eight conference games. They are tied for seventh in the CCC with Northwest and College of Idaho.
 
The Geoducks struggle on the offensive end, ranking 11th in the CCC in points per game at 57.4. The Geoducks are last in three-point percentage (.245), free throw percentage (.617), and tenth in field goal percentage (.363). They are eighth in defense, allowing 66.4 points per game.
 
Evergreen is led by Sydney Vanness who averages 13.2 points for game, ranking 15th best in the CCC. Their second leading scorer, Eugene native Jenna Glenzel, averages 12.1 ppg and is extremely disruptive on the defensive end, leading the conference in steals at 2.9 steals per game.
 
The Beacons lost their first match up against Evergreen in early January, ending a 14-game winning streak for Bushnell. The Geoducks trail 14-19 in the all-time series.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL

After going 2-1 last week, the Beacons (11-9, 8-6 CCC) are heading up north to play Northwest and Evergreen. 
 
2000-POINT WATCH: Fifth-year senior Stevie Schlabach is now within striking distance of a major milestone as he approaches 2,000 points for his career. Schlabach currently has 1,878 points. Only two players have ever accomplished this milestone, and Schlabach is only 122 points away from becoming the first Beacon to score 2,000 points in the last 33 years.
 
CONFERENCE OUTLOOK: With about a month left in the regular season, the conference is led by No. 3 College of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State (receiving votes) who are tied for first at 13-1. No. 23 Oregon Tech is close behind with a record of 10-3 in conference. The Beacons are currently ranked sixth in the CCC, just one game behind Corban for the fifth seed.
 
The Beacons have returned to the top of the conference in scoring (88.7 ppg) after two high-scoring games against Multnomah and Warner Pacific, with the Beacons scoring over 100 points in both contests. The Beacons are ninth defensively, allowing 84.2 ppg. Bushnell is No. 1 for three-point shooting (.403), free-throw shooting (.762), and No. 2 for overall field goal shooting (.484). The Beacons are also first in the conference in assists (16.8/g), fourth in blocks (3.2/g) and third in rebounds (39.2/g).
 
Individually, Stevie Schlabach ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (16.8 ppg) while Kaden Sand is ninth (15.0 ppg). Spencer Hoffman is fourth in conference with 8.7 rebounds per game and tenth for field goal percentage (.545).
 
NORTHWEST: The Eagles (6-14, 5-9 CCC) walk into this weekend as the eighth seed in the CCC after coming home with a 79-73 win at Evergreen on Tuesday.
 
Northwest is in the middle of the pack on both ends of the court, ranking sixth in offense at 77.9 points per game, and ranking seventh in defense, allowing 83.8 points per game. The Eagles are seventh in field goal percentage (.434), tenth in three-point percentage (.310), and third in offensive rebounds per game (11.0).
 
The Eagles are led by junior forward Luke Howard, who is leading the CCC in scoring at 20.3 points per game. Howard is also sixth in the CCC in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and fifth in blocks (1.2 bpg). The Eagles have another top-eight scorer in senior forward Lewis Pope, who is averaging 16.3 points per game.
 
The Beacons defeated Northwest at the Morse Event Center in their first match up on January 6. The Beacons have an 18-15 lead over the Eagles, dating back to 2006, and have won four straight.
 
EVERGREEN: The Geoducks (3-16, 2-12 CCC) are sitting at 11th in the standings, coming off a tough 79-73 loss at home against Northwest on Tuesday.
 
Evergreen struggles on both ends of the floor, ranking last in the CCC in both offense (68.1 ppg) and defense (88.2 ppg allowed). The Geoducks are last in field goal percentage (.405), rebounding (31.7 rpg), field goal percentage defense (.486), and ninth in three-point percentage (.326).
 
Individually, sophomore guard Elijah McLaughlin leads them in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game. He is also sixth in the CCC in steals at 1.2 per game. Right behind him is senior guard Jayden Upshaw, who averages 9.9 points per game and leads the team in assists at 3.4 assists per game, which is good for ninth in the CCC.
 
In their first meeting with the Geoducks, the Beacons earned a decisive win at home with a score of 103-59. The Beacons hold a 21-12 lead in the all-time series against Evergreen and outside of a COVID-related forfeit in 2022, have won 18 of the last 19 meetings.

THIS WEEK: Bushnell hits the road for their first-ever trip to the Grand Canyon State. They will face off against one team, Benedictine-Mesa, for the first time on Thursday.
 
Then they travel to compete with OUAZ, a team with whom the Beacons are 1-1 all-time. The last meeting was in 2019, a game won by the Beacons, 8-0 in five innings at the Southern California Classic in Lake Elsinore.
 
The trip concludes with a visit to Arizona Christian. Bushnell won the only meeting ever between the schools in 2013, 1-0, at the Big League Dreams tournament in Redding, California.

THIS WEEK: Bushnell opens the season on the road at William Jessup University for the second year in row. Last season, the Beacons took two out of three in the series, splitting the Friday double-header and winning the singleton on Saturday.
 
The Warriors are off to an impressive 4-0 start to their season, having swept a four-game series with defending CCC Champion Oregon Tech last weekend, averaging over ten runs per game.
 
The Warriors hold a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with Bushnell, having swept the Beacons in a four-game series back in 2022.
 
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Friday-Saturday 2/2 – 2/3 at Riverfront Invitational (Livestats)
 
LAST WEEK: A select group of Beacons qualified for the UW Invitational and made the trek to Seattle last weekend. For the men, leading the way was freshman Jermaine Schexnayder who broke the Bushnell indoor record in the high jump (1.90m/6'2.75") and finished with the second-longest indoor triple jump in school history (13.41m/44'0").
 
For the women, senior Adrienne Mai dominated with a two-second PR in the 400m (1:01.70), which was the second-fastest time in school history. She also posted a personal best in the 200m as her 27.46 landed ninth all-time for the Beacons.
 
THIS WEEK: Bushnell will be making their first ever trip to The Podium, a new world class indoor track & field facility in Spokane, Washington.  Representatives from over 30 schools will be in attendance including a large number of NCAA Division I and Division II programs. Bushnell and Multnomah are the only competing schools from the Cascade Conference.
 
The Beacons will send a large contingent up north, including 12 men and ten women, competing across multiple disciplines and distances.

ESPORTS

LAST WEEK: Bushnell Rocket League opened the spring season with a win over Colorado College, 4-1. After falling in game one, the trio of Isaac Wagner, Cole Vamos and Kyle Foss won the next three to take the match. The Tigers had won both prior matchups in the fall.
 
The Beacons take on UT Dallas in the second round of the regular season.
