Beacons Shutout by Argos as Carrazco Says Goodbye

EUGENE, Ore.  – The University of Providence men's soccer team defeated Bushnell on Saturday with a lethal combination of offense and defense, winning 4-0.

The Argos (6-4, 3-2 CCC) out-shot the Beacons 17-10 in the contest but posted ten shots on goal while holding Bushnell to just one, coming in the second half. The game remained close throughout the first half, but Providence put things away early in the second, scoring back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart.

"Today's game was a tough one," said head coach Joao Ehlers. "We didn't move the ball the way we are used to and we ended up not creating enough chances up front. Time to work hard during the week to prepare for our next game."

The Beacons (4-3-2, 0-3-1 CCC) remain home next weekend as they take on The Evergreen State College on Friday and Northwest University on Saturday. Both games will kick off at 4:30 pm.

Saturday was the final game for long-time Beacon and Associate Head Coach Erik Carrazco. Carrazco, who had been with the program for 13 years including four as a player and nine as a coach, is moving to Portland where he has taken a job as the Assistant to the GM for the Portland Thorns.

Coach Ehlers said, "Coach Erik will be missed by everyone. He was a servant leader and a role model to our guys. We are blessed to have had him with the program for so many years and we are excited to see what the future holds for him."

Bushnell Associate Athletic Director Sarah Freeman added, "There are not enough words to express the gratitude we have for Erik and the immeasurable impact he has had on our community. From his days as a player to his roles in athletics and financial aid, he has made lasting contributions and his legacy here is cemented. We're so proud of him and wish him the best on his new adventure. He is a Beacon for life and will always be part of our family."
