LEWISTON, Idaho – The Bushnell volleyball team claimed their fourth straight victory on Saturday evening, defeating Lewis-Clark State College in four sets, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14, holding on to a share of second-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Â
The Beacons (8-3, 6-1 CCC) weren't perfect in the match, but overcame some mistakes to roll decisively through the Warriors, avenging a loss from their last meeting late last season, putting an exclamation mark on the victory as they hit .306 over the final two sets.
Â
"We came out with fire after last year's loss to them," said Head Coach
Jason Corwin. "We had a few peaks and valleys along the way tonight but found ways to overcome our early errors. Our floor defense made some amazing plays, stealing momentum when we needed it most. There is just no quit in this team!"
Â
Three players collected double-digit kill totals for the Beacons, led by
Matty Ladd with a match-high 14 kills, hitting .435 with two blocks on the right side. "It was a really good match," said Ladd. "Both teams came in with a ton of energy but in the end, we did a great job of playing to our standard and being us. I am super proud of everyone and how we never gave up."
Â
On the outside,
Leah Agost (pictured) and
Amyah Semau had dueling 11-kill performances with Semau adding 14 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Â
"We had such good energy and confidence going into the game," said Semau. "Although we let up a little in the second set, we pulled though with the win because we committed to doing what our team does best which is being aggressive and working cohesively."
Â
Agost added, "Tonight we came out ready to play and it showed. We carried out energy and kept our momentum going throughout the match. We worked had and deserved this win."
Â
Elsewhere on the stat sheet,
Katie Belitz posted a match-high 20 assists and had three of Bushnell's seven service aces.
Bella Parque made numerous impressive plays on defense for the Beacons and ended the night with a match-best 17 digs.
