Beacons Open Conference With a Draw

SALEM, Ore.  – The Bushnell men's soccer team continued their best start in school history on Friday evening, playing to a 1-1 stalemate with Corban University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools.

It was the second straight draw for the Beacons (4-0-2, 0-1-1 CCC) and helped them end a six-game losing streak to the Warriors. It was also the first time Bushnell earned a point on the road against Corban since 2010.

Bushnell held a 17-15 advantage in shot attempts on Friday, with both teams cooking up an even nine shots-on-goal apiece. The Beacons, however, were in control of most of the contest and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks

"We had a good collective performance tonight," said head coach Joao Ehlers. "We dominated possession and created the better chances."

The Beacons got on board first as Omar Barajas scored in the 31st minute off a pass from Caleb Premo. After Bushnell took the 1-0 lead into the intermission, the Warriors (0-2-3, 0-0-1) were able to break through with the equalizer in the 54th minute off the foot of Nate Sherwood.

Alejandro Munoz led all players with eight shot attempts for the Beacons while freshman Andre Ferreira had a gem of a game between the pipes, collecting eight saves.

After just the single "travel partner" game this weekend, the Beacons will now rest up for their first massive conference double-header next weekend as they travel to take on Oregon Tech on Friday and Southern Oregon on Saturday.
