SALEM, Ore. – The Bushnell men's soccer team continued their best start in school history on Friday evening, playing to a 1-1 stalemate with Corban University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools.
Â
It was the second straight draw for the Beacons (4-0-2, 0-1-1 CCC) and helped them end a six-game losing streak to the Warriors. It was also the first time Bushnell earned a point on the road against Corban since 2010.
Â
Bushnell held a 17-15 advantage in shot attempts on Friday, with both teams cooking up an even nine shots-on-goal apiece. The Beacons, however, were in control of most of the contest and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks
Â
"We had a good collective performance tonight," said head coach
Joao Ehlers. "We dominated possession and created the better chances."
Â
The Beacons got on board first as
Omar Barajas scored in the 31st minute off a pass from
Caleb Premo. After Bushnell took the 1-0 lead into the intermission, the Warriors (0-2-3, 0-0-1) were able to break through with the equalizer in the 54th minute off the foot of Nate Sherwood.
Â
Alejandro Munoz led all players with eight shot attempts for the Beacons while freshman
Andre Ferreira had a gem of a game between the pipes, collecting eight saves.
Â
After just the single "travel partner" game this weekend, the Beacons will now rest up for their first massive conference double-header next weekend as they travel to take on Oregon Tech on Friday and Southern Oregon on Saturday.Â
