Beacons Honor Six Seniors to Conclude Season

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State College took three of four games over host Bushnell University this weekend to earn themselves a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament, defeating the Beacons 8-1 and 17-2 in Saturday's doubleheader at the Hamlin Sports Complex.

The 16th-ranked Warriors (29-14, 14-10 CCC) knocked the Beacons out of postseason contention with the win in Saturday's opener to clinch their spot in the CCC Tournament. The Beacons finish the 2023 season with a 23-25 overall record and a 11-13 mark in conference play.

Six Beacons were honored for Senior Day prior to the first game: Jack Horn, Caleb Schorr, Jeff Fripp, Trenton Hough, David Schwartz and Caleb Watson.

Horn was in his first season with the Beacons after previous stints at Tacoma Community College and George Washington University. He played in six games this season and allowed just two earned runs in eight innings while striking out 11 batters.

Coach Richards said "In his one year here at Bushnell, Jack has made a big impact on our program and on me personally. His legacy will live on for a long time. His work ethic, competitive spirit, and passion for developing the young guys has enhanced our program. Jack has the heart of a horse, and I can't wait to see what his future holds."

Schorr was in his first year with the Beacons after previous stints at Eastern Arizona CC, Ottawa University, and East Central University. He was an ACCAC Junior College All-American in 2020. He played in four games for the Beacons this season.

Coach Richards said, "Caleb is a great young man, and I am so proud that he is a Beacon. His selflessness and perseverance were on display at every moment this year. He's a great teammate and someone the clubhouse and coaching staff will surely miss."

Fripp was in his second season with the Beacons after transferring from Southwestern Oregon Community College. Last season he hit .311 and led the team in hits, home runs and RBI and was named an All-Cascade Conference honorable mention. He hit .307 in 45 games played this season and has collected 51 hits and 31 RBI with 15 extra-base hits. Last weekend he became the first Bushnell player to collect two home runs in one inning.

Coach Richards said, "Fripp has one of the brightest and most infectious personalities I have ever come across. He has enriched our team athletically and energetically alike. He is a great Beacon, and we are so proud that he joined our program and will be graduating from Bushnell."

Hough has been with the Beacons for two years after transferring from Lane Community College. Last season he made 14 appearances for the Beacons and six starts. This year he played in 14 games, holding a 6.86 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.

Coach Richards said, "Hough is as steady as they come. He has modeled both dependability, and the even keeled nature it takes to be successful day after day. I appreciate all his effort and know he will be successful in his future endeavors."

Schwartz was in his second year with the program after transferring from West Hills College Coalinga. Last season he made five appearances for the Beacons on the mound. This year he serves as the Team Manager.

Coach Richards said, "I am very grateful for David and all he has done for our program. He looked adversity in the eye and dug deep to stay in the fight. I have learned a ton from David and am so proud of him. He is as reliable as they come and has always done the work and put the team ahead of himself."

Watson was with the Beacons for two seasons after transferring as a graduate student after completing his undergraduate career at Biola University. Last season he appeared in five games and made two starts. This year he has thrown 15 innings in 11 appearances and made two starts.

Coach Richards said, "Caleb is a dynamic young man with a bright future. His response to injury was inspiring. He focused on the things within his control and found a way to make our team better. Those skills will serve him very well in his future endeavors. Thanks for a great two years, Caleb."
