Silver Shines in Sweep of Knights

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – Senior pitcher Sam Silver threw 10.2 scoreless innings and picked up wins in both games as the Bushnell University softball team claimed a double-header sweep from Warner Pacific, 2-0 and 5-3 at Rex Putnam High School.

Madison Steelman also did some of the heavy lifting with a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the seventh inning of game two secured the sweep.

GAME ONE: Bushnell 2, Warner Pacific 0

The Beacons claimed their first shutout of the season in the opener as Silver held WPU to just three hits while striking out seven batters in the complete game effort.

Silver also went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Bushnell. Bryana Yoshida gave the team a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the second inning and Steelman gave a little insurance in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

GAME TWO: Bushnell 5, Warner Pacific 3

Trailing by a score of 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning after struggling to get anything accomplished against WPU starter Carrington Foster, Bushnell was able to rally. After a pair of walks and an Alyssa Ferreira single loaded the bases with one out, Steelman drilled a ball down the left field line, plating two to give the visitors the lead. Krystal Akagi soon followed with a two-out RBI walk for the insurance score.

Silver threw the final 3.2 innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out two batters to secure the victory and improve to 5-9 on the season.
