Thunderbirds Take Series with 7-5 Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A delayed start due to morning snow in the Willamette Valley didn't hinder the University of British Columbia on Sunday as they defeated Bushnell 7-5 in the series rubber match.

After three scoreless innings, UBC (7-3, 2-1 CCC) put together a 5-run fourth inning, tacking on single scores in the fifth and sixth to preserve the win.

Bushnell got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs with an RBI single by Bryana Yoshida and an RBI walk to Madison Steelman a few batters later.

Trailing 7-2, Bushnell rallied with three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left field line for Alyssa Ferreira (pictured).

The bottom third of the Bushnell lineup had a strong day, batting 5-for-8, scoring three runs as Faith Wayman and Yoshida each collected a pair of hits and Ferreira went 1-for-2 with the two RBI. The top six batters for the Beacons, however, combined to hit just 2-for-21 with nine strikeouts.

Lindsay Bell (3-1) picked up her second straight victory for UBC as she threw 2.2 innings of relief, striking out five batters. Shae Sever threw the seventh and struck out a pair to pick up her first save.

Leslie Reynaga (2-3) took the loss for the Beacons, giving up five runs on five hits over four innings.

Originally scheduled as a double-header, the second non-conference contest was canceled.
