LA GRANDE, Ore. – Junior
Faith Wayman hit her second career home run to give Bushnell a silver lining on an otherwise difficult day as Bushnell was hit with a pair of run-rule losses against No. 19 Eastern Oregon.
Â
The Mountaineers (15-8, 7-4 CCC) out-hit the Beacons 20-4 over the course of ten innings, and got a pitching gem from Kaylie Hoskins who threw her third no-hitter of the season in the first game.
Â
GAME ONE: Eastern Oregon 13, Bushnell 1 (5 Innings)
Â
Hoskins struck out 13 batters out of her 15 recorded outs in the opener, improving to 7-3 on the season. Offensively, the Mounties pounded out 11 hits and scored in clusters with five runs in the second inning and seven in the fourth.
Â
The Beacons were able to get one run on the board in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a few EOU miscues. Erika Allen opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. She moved to third base as
Krystal Akagi reached on a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on another fielding error when Akagi stole second base.
Â
Sam Silver (1-7) gave up nine runs on eight hits in three innings of work to take the loss.
Â
GAME TWO: Eastern Oregon 11, Bushnell 3 (5 Innings)
Â
After being held hitless in game one, the Beacons wasted no time in changing their fate in the second game, with a pair of first-inning hits.
Madison Steelman got things started with a single, and later scored on a single from
Hannah Tennant as Bushnell took an early 1-0 lead.
Â
EOU would come back to take a 3-1 lead by the third inning, before Wayman's blast to left field scored two to knot things up again. Unfortunately, the Mounties had another big inning, scoring six runs in the fourth before walking it off with two in the bottom of the fifth.
Â
Leslie Reynaga (1-5) took the loss for the Beacons, fiving up eight runs on six hits in three innings. She walked six batters and struck out two.
