Pitching Highlights 6-4 Win Over OIT

SPRINGFIELD, Ore.  –  The Bushnell pitching staff held strong on Friday afternoon, allowing just one hit in the final seven innings, in a 6-4 victory over Oregon Tech at the Hamlin Sports Complex.

Bushnell (10-5) is now just one victory away from tying their win total from last season. Oregon Tech, who was originally scheduled to host the series, drops to 12-8 on the year. The non-conference series was moved to Springfield due to the snowfall in Klamath Falls.

Ethan Sachs got the start on the mound for Bushnell, allowing three runs on five hits, with all three coming in the top of the second. Sachs faced the minimum over the next three innings and the Beacon pitching staff allowed just one hit the rest of the way.

Kai Keamo entered in the top of the sixth with the Beacons trailing, 3-2. He pitched a scoreless frame before Cade Crist put the Beacons on top, 4-3, with a two-run homer to left center.

Keamo pitched another scoreless inning and Daniel Furman entered the game following a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth. The Owls tied the game at 4-4 with a sacrifice fly, but the damage was limited thanks to a diving catch by right-fielder Noah Montoya on the play.

Jordan Wilson hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the eighth to get into scoring position and Jeff Fripp brought him home with a double down the left field line to put Bushnell ahead, 5-4. Another run came in via a groundout to make it a 6-4 lead for the Beacons entering the top of the ninth.

Furman struck out the first batter in the top of the ninth before giving up a walk. The right-hander responded by striking out back-to-back Owls looking to put the game away. Furman (1-0) tallied five strikeouts in two innings of work.

Lalo Barraza tossed 5.1 innings for the Owls, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits. Drake Aboud (0-1) threw 1.2 innings before Ryan Poling entered with two batters on base in the eighth. Julien Jones led OIT at the plate, hitting 2-for-4.

Bushnell and Oregon Tech finish off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
