ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Bushnell softball team earned another road split on Wednesday, this time taking down the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Jessup University in the opener before falling in the night cap.
The win was Bushnell's first over an NAIA top-25 team since 2019, breaking a 30-game losing streak to ranked opponents.
GAME ONE: Bushnell 5, Jessup 2
A first-inning RBI double by
Hannah Tennant set the tone and
Madison Steelman went on to register the next four RBI as the Beacons pounded out ten hits in the victory. Steelman finished with a single, double, and triple for the second consecutive game, hitting 3-for-4. She now has seven triples in her career and is just two shy of matching Bushnell's career record.
Sam Silver got the start in the circle for the Beacons and was able to pull off the rare feat of claiming a save as a starter. After allowing one run on three hits over the first three innings, she was lifted for a reliever. She came back in to close out the sixth and seventh innings, for her first career save.
Liz Hiller (1-0) came in in relief and allowed one run on two hits in two innings of work to pick up her first win of the season.
GAME TWO: Jessup 8, Bushnell 0 (5 Innings)
An eight-run second inning spelled doom for the Beacons in game two, as starter
Breanna Hilton (0-1) walked four batters and gave up five earned runs on two hits.
Offensively, the team was held to two hits with Steelman and
Alyssa Ferreira picking up singles.
The silver lining for the Beacons was a relief appearance from
Jada Young who threw the final two innings and did not surrender a hit.
