PORTLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team dropped two road games on Saturday afternoon, closing out an eight-game season opening road trip against Lewis & Clark College, 4-3 and 10-0.

GAME ONE: Lewis & Clark 4, Bushnell 3

Leading 3-2 and just four outs away from victory, the Beacons were unable to hang on to the win in the opener. The Pioneers benefitted from a fielding error in the sixth inning to tie the game and then produced a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Madison Steelman put the Beacons ahead early with a pair of solo home runs in the in the first and third innings. L&C rallied to tie the game with a two-run blast of their own in the bottom of the third.

The score remained tied until the sixth when
Hannah Tennant gave the Beacons a lead with an RBI single.

Sam Silver (0-3) pitched a complete game for the Beacons in the opener, striking out three batters and allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

GAME TWO: Lewis & Clark 10, Bushnell 0 (5 Innings)

The Pioneers were able to walk it off again, using a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the collegiate run-rule. Bushnell used three pitchers who combined to walk eight batters and allow nine earned runs on just seven hits. Starter
Liz Hillier (1-1) took the loss for the Beacons, allowing seven runs in 2.1 innings.

The Bushnell offense scattered four hits including a Tennant double, and struck out six times in the loss.

The Beacons (2-6) will host Willamette University (2-2) for a double-header on Sunday in their home opener. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
