Alec Gums pitched five scoreless innings and
Noah Montoya hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Bushnell University baseball team a 10-0 win in the second game of Friday's non-conference doubleheader with the University of British Columbia.

The Thunderbirds (8-6) took the opener, 6-4, but the Beacons (5-3) answered with a 10-0 shutout in game two to force a split on Friday. The sides finish off the series with two more games on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

Game 1: British Columbia 6, Bushnell 4

The Thunderbirds scored five of their six runs via homers in the series opener. Noah Or accounted for four runs, recording a home run in both the fifth and seventh inning. Or's three-run homer in the fifth put UBC up 4-0 and his solo shot in the seventh made it a 5-2 lead.

Jonny McGill singled to left to extend the advantage to 6-2 in the top of the seventh.

The Beacons put up two runs in the bottom the ninth but were unable to continue the rally.
Jeff Fripp brough in both runs of the final frame with a double.

Cayden Delozier hit 2-for-3 to lead the Beacons at the plate, who finished with six hits as a team. Â

Ethan Sachs (0-1) got the start for Bushnell, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits through 4.2 innings pitched.
Kai Keamo threw the next 3.1 in relief, giving up two runs on four hits, before
Jayden Soriano tossed a one-hit ninth.

Sean Heppner (1-1) earned the win on the mound for the Thunderbirds, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in six innings of work, and struck out seven Beacons. Daniel Orfaly pitched the next three innings for the save, allowing two runs on four hits.

Game 2: Bushnell 10, British Columbia 0 (7 innings)

Montoya, playing in his first game of the season, hit 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead the Beacons in game two. Fripp went 2-for-3 and
Ethan Stacy batted 3-for-4, recording two RBIs apiece. Â

Fripp got the offense going in the first with a bases-loaded single through the left side, scoring Stacy and
Jordan Wilson, who both reached via singles. Montoya extended the Bushnell advantage to 3-0 with an RBI-single up the middle in the bottom of the third, scoring Fripp.

Stacy hit an RBI-double in the fourth and scored on a double steal to bring the lead to 5-0 before driving in one more with another double in the fifth.

Delozier scored on a passed ball and Montoya made it a 10-0 lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Gums (2-1) and
Daniel Furman combined for the seven-inning shutout. Gums got the start, allowing just three hits in five innings. Furman pitched two innings of relief, allowing three hits.

Cole Alguire (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings pitched. Aaron Marsh led the Thunderbirds at the plate in game two, finishing with two hits.
