Beacons Fall to Owls in CCC Quarterfinal

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech defeated visiting Bushnell University, taking the Cascade Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal women's basketball game by a score of 67-62 on Wednesday evening.
 
Oregon Tech outscored Bushnell, 23-12, in the fourth quarter and forced three turnovers in the final 45 seconds of play to advance to a CCC Semifinal game against Eastern Oregon. The Owls are the four-seed in the tournament, while the Beacons were the fifth seed.
 
Bella Pedrojetti gave Bushnell some early momentum in the first quarter, scoring seven points in the period, which included back-to-back baskets in an 11-0 run. Kaylen Kamelamela added a quick five points, helping the Beacons take a slim 17-16 advantage after one. Alexis Elquist went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for the Owls in the period as four of five made baskets for OIT were from deep.
 
The Owls struggled to get the ball across half court early in the second and were held to 26.7% from the field in the period, but the Beacons led just 33-29 at the break. Bushnell held a 13-6 turnover advantage at the half, but OIT kept it close thanks in part to 6-of-9 shooting from three.
 
Neither side committed a turnover in the third quarter and the Beacons outscored the Owls, 17-15, in the period to bring a 50-44 lead into the fourth.
 
Oregon Tech opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to take a 54-52 lead less than three minutes into the quarter. Back-to-back layups from Kalina Rojas followed by another from Aly Mirabile gave Bushnell a 58-54 lead with 05:26 remaining.
 
Olivia Sprague answered with a three and made a pair of free throws to give the Owls a 59-58 advantage with 02:49 to go. Rojas continued to make shots for the Beacons, but OIT responded on both occasions to hold a 64-62 lead with 41 seconds on the clock. The Owls forced turnovers on the next three Beacon possessions to seal the win.
 
Bushnell finished 43.3% from the field but made just 4-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Beacons shot 6-of-7 from the free throw line, compared to 17-of-26 for the Owls. Oregon Tech shot 36.2% from the floor and 8-of-18 from three, while outrebounding Bushnell, 43-32. OIT picked up 19 offensive boards on the game.
 
Sprague led all scorers with 16 points, hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Maddyson Tull and Melissa Lee recorded 14 points apiece, and Lee added 10 rebounds to post a double-double.
 
Rojas finished with 14 points to lead Bushnell in scoring. Aspen Slifka added nine points and seven rebounds, while Libby Mathis posted eight points and three blocks.
 
Bushnell concluded the 2022-23 season with a 17-11 record overall and a 14-8 mark in conference action.
