Beacons Win Season-Opening Series at Jessup

ROCKLIN, Calif.  – The Bushnell baseball team took down Jessup University, 10-3, in the final contest of the three-game series, to kick off the non-conference slate with a series win.

Bushnell (2-1) held a slim two-run lead for a most of the contest before using a four-run seventh and three-run eighth to put the game away. The Beacons earn the series win after splitting with Jessup (3-6) in Friday's doubleheader, a series in which they were swept in a year ago.

All three runs for the Warriors were via solo homers with two coming off the bat of Brandon Springer.

Jordan Wilson, who got the start in center field, hit a two-run homer to get the Beacons on the board in the top of the first. Wilson drove in Ethan Stacy, who finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs.

Dylan Carson hit 3-for-5, opening his day with an RBI-double in the second. Carson drove in Jameson Hussey, who tumbled across the plate, scoring from first base.

Jessup got a run back in the third and held Bushnell scoreless for four innings before giving up four unearned runs in the seventh. The first two runs came in following throwing errors and Carson drove in the next pair with a single up the middle to make it a 7-1 lead.

Cayden Delozier added on in the eighth with a two-out, three-run homer, to record his first home run as a Beacon.

Adam Sabatino got the start on the mound for Bushnell, allowing one run on three hits through three innings of work. Trenton Hough pitched a scoreless inning before Jahshua Yacapin (1-0) finished off the final five frames. Yacapin allowed two runs on four hits to earn the pitching win.

Bushnell heads back to California next weekend to take on Simpson University in a four-game series on Feb. 17-18.
