MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team kicked off the season on Wednesday, falling twice to Western Oregon University.

GAME ONE: Western Oregon 8, Bushnell 1

The Wolves scored eight runs on eight hits to take the opener, building a 6-0 lead before Bushnell was able to get on the board in the top of the fifth.
Ericka Allen,
Mandy Fetters, and Breanna Yoshida put together consecutive singles with Yoshida scoring Allen from third for the Beacons only run.

Yoshida (pictured) finished 2-for-3 in the game while
Alyssa Ferreira added a first-inning double.
Sam Silver (0-1) got the start for the Beacons and allowed three earned runs in four innings of work while striking out five.

GAME TWO: Western Oregon 2, Bushnell 0

The Wolves got a fourth-inning two-run homer from Sophie Franklin to account for all the scoring in game two.

The Beacon offense went cold in the night cap, scattering four singles. Their best opportunity came in the top of the fifth inning as they had runners on second and third with just one out, but were unable to score.

Starting for the Beacons was
Jada Young (0-1) who made her Bushnell debut against her former team and threw three scoreless innings before surrendering the home run.
Liz Hillier threw the final 2.2 innings for the Beacons, giving up no runs on two hits while striking out two.
