EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team played their final regular-season home game on Saturday night, falling to No. 16 Southern Oregon University in four sets, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19.
Â
The Beacons (15-11, 13-9 CCC) hung with the Raiders for much of the evening and were only out-blocked 12-10 against one of the most dominant defensive teams in the country. The Beacons hit .151 while the Raiders swung at a .213 clip, holding a 55-47 advantage in kills. Southern Oregon also out-dug the Beacons 61-47 while the teams were even at six service aces apiece.
Â
Head Coach
Jason Corwin said, "We did a lot of good things tonight, just not enough to overcome SOU's tough right-side attack."
Â
Halle Neumann led the way for Bushnell's offense with 14 kills, hitting .276 as she became just the second Beacon in school history to collect 900 kills in her career. Sitting at 910, she is just 13 kills away from becoming Bushnell's all-time leader. Neumann added four blocks in the game and needs just one block assist to move into second all-time in that category.
Â
The top blocker, however, was
Makenna Mosher with five while
Celia Hubbard added three blocks and six kills, hitting .385 to lead the team.
Leah Agost posted 11 kills in the match while
Bella Parque posted team-highs with 13 digs and two aces. Peyton Richie earned a match-high 24 assists.
Â
Southern Oregon (25-5, 18-4) was led by 19 kills from Hannah Stadstad, hitting .500. Annie Hite secured a double-double in the match with 22 assists and 11 digs while Marin Mackey led all players with 20 digs. Tessa Zimmerman played just two sets for the Raiders but came up with six blocks, including back-to-back solo blocks in the fourth set.
Â
Bushnell had the opportunity to honor seniors
Chloe Kurahara,
Brooke Silvernail,
Halle Neumann and
Peyton Ritchie in a pre-game ceremony, but the team will have one more opportunity to compete at the Morse Event Center as they will host Oregon Tech on Tuesday in the opening round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament.
Â
"I loved celebrating our seniors tonight," said Corwin. "They have done so much to help establish a standard and developed such a welcoming culture we can continue to build upon."
Â
The Beacons earn the No. 6 seed for the CCC tournament and will host No. 7 Owls on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Bushnell is 2-0 so far this season against them. The Raiders finish as the No. 3 seed and will await their opponent in the CCC quarterfinals, which take place on Friday at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.
