KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The offensive found its rhythm on Friday night as the Bushnell women's basketball team grinded out a 76-70 non-conference victory over Jessup University.
Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "The Beacons played well tonight and it was easily our most complete game of the year. To see everybody step up and contribute was really awesome. This was just the beginning of our offense starting to come together."
Bushnell (3-2) trailed by six early in the fourth quarter before using a 14-0 run to take a 66-58 lead with four minutes to play. The Beacons scored 24 points and did not commit a single turnover in the final quarter to hand Jessup its first loss of the season.
The Beacons shot 42.1% from the field and were led by a 20-point, eight-rebound performance from Libby Mathis. Ayden Krupke scored 14 points in the second half alone to finish with 16. Mandy Sisul added 12 points, while Aspen Slifka recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
"Aly was unbelievable tonight," said Meadors. "She picked up two fouls super quick but stayed within the right frame of mind and gave us an immediate lift upon her return. I love the leadership that Liv is providing us and it is great to see Mandy healthy and back at it. Ayden struggled in the first half but caught her breath and used halftime to regroup and came out and gave us a huge lift. Libby is an anchor."
Liv Tjoelker, who recorded half of the Beacons' assists with seven, added, "It was a dogfight from the beginning to end. We had a lot of fun out there, were making plays left and right and feeding off each other. They were a super physical team and we held our ground. We would rotate and steal and they couldn't get to the rim. It was team basketball and I'm proud of everyone."
Jessup (4-1) shot 40% from the field, making 11-of-28 from three. Andrea Jovicevic led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points.
Up next, the Beacons take on the University of Puget Sound on Wednesday, Nov. 22 in Tacoma, Wash.
