COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Bushnell men's soccer team picked up their second straight road victory on Sunday afternoon, topping Walla Walla University, 2-0.
Â
Bushnell (6-8-3, 2-8-2 CCC) out-shot the Wolves 12-10 in the game and allowed just two shots-on-goal as they secured their sixth victory for their highest win total since 2017.
Â
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "I am very pleased with our collective effort today. We were able to manage the game well and properly close down spaces on the field when we didn't have the ball."
Â
The highlight for the Beacons was the play of
Kainalu Smith (pictured) who registered his first career clean sheet, picking up two saves in the process. "Kainalu is a hard worker," said Ehlers. "He gets better day by day and we can see his improvements on the field. He has been playing with a lot of confidence and that has helped us tremendously."
Â
Also key for the Beacons was the game-winning goal from leading scorer
Caleb Premo, who connected with a strike off a pass from
Jay Jay Van Der Velde in the seventh minute of the game. It was the second winner and sixth goal of the season for the sophomore.
Â
Van Der Velde wasn't done, as he added an assist on the insurance goal, which Bushnell posted in the 72nd minute.
Walter Reustle also grabbed an assist as his pass found Van Der Velde, who one-timed a pass to
Omar Rodriguez, finding the back of the net.
Â
The Beacons have one more game on the books, heading to Ashland on Thursday to close out the season against Southern Oregon University at 3:00 pm.
