EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team combined for a season-high 15 service aces on their way to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 rout of Walla Walla University on Saturday night to clinch their fifth straight trip to the Cascade Collegiate Conference post-season tournament.
Â
The Beacons (13-7, 11-5 CCC) hit .325 on the night, but the story of the night was at the service line as Bushnell kept the Wolves out of system and benefitted from no less than five overpasses that resulted in direct kills at the net.
Â
Head Coach
Jason Corwin said, "The team did an excellent job of being consistent tonight. Our setters did a good job of getting contributions from lots of hitters tonight. We brought a lot of service pressure this weekend and that will serve us well for next weekend's competitive matches."
Â
Redshirt Freshman setter
Katie Belitz (pictured) set the tone for Bushnell, collecting a match-high 21 assists while posting a career-high seven service aces.
Amyah Semau and
Bella Parque added to the tally with three aces apiece.
Â
Belitz said, "I am super proud of how we took care of business tonight. We played our game and did everything we needed to do. We were in-system and our hitters were finding the holes in the defense."
Â
Offensively,
Leah Agost led the charge with nine kills while Semau posteded eight.
Celia Hubbard hit .556 with five kills and
Chloe Kurahara also ended the evening with five. Parque also led all players with 11 digs.
Â
Walla Walla (1-16, 1-15 CCC) hit .099 in the match and were led by a trio of players, Jocelyn Curiel Ruiz, Lauren Moody, and Gabrielle Faamausili who collected four kills each. Gabrielle Faamausili also posted a match-high three block assists, as the Wolves out-blocked the Beacons, 3-2. Danielle Faamausili led the team with 13 assists and five digs.
Â
With the Beacons posting a sweep this weekend, they now sit alone in fifth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with three weeks to play and cannot finish any lower than eighth place, guaranteeing a trip to the CCC tournament. Bushnell is just a game out of third-place.
Â
The Beacons will hit the road next weekend for Washington, where they face a big Friday-night clash with Northwest University (13-7, 10-5) at 7:00 pm.
