Beacons Honor Seniors at Final Home Game

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell men's soccer team played their final home game on Saturday, facing off against Warner Pacific University in what would go down as a 2-0 defeat. Prior to the match, the Beacons were able to honor seniors Ethan Ferry, Preston Ferry, Arjuna Chotu, and Juan Palacios.  
 
As for the match, the Beacons (4-7-2, 0-7-1 CCC) were outshot 22-7 by the Knights (8-3-2, 5-2-2), who scored one goal in each half. Kainalu Smith finished with four saves for the Beacons while Omar Barajas led the team with three shot attempts.
 
The Beacons owned four shots on goal, from four different players, giving WPU keeper Josepher Juarez-Cruz four saves in his clean sheet effort.
 
"We did a lot of good things tonight," said Head Coach Joao Ehlers. "We were able to maintain high energy throughout the match and I am pleased with how we competed against such a good opponent."
 
The Beacons will hit the road for the final three weeks of the regular season, beginning with a clash at Eastern Oregon University on October 20 at 1:00 pm.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Coach Ehlers said, "Our seniors have contributed to create and maintain a positive team culture here at Bushnell. They have shown great leadership skills on and off the field, helping us to improve in every single training session, and also making sure that everyone understood the expectations and what it means to represent our program."
 
Ethan Ferry

 
Ferry has been with the Beacons for four years. In that time, he has played in 25. He has been named the Beacons Most Improved Player three times. He is a three-time Academic All-CCC selection and a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Coach Ehlers said, "Ethan has helped us to make sure everyone was on the same page in many areas of the program. He directly participated in the spiritual journey of many of our guys, and he also helped them to understand our expectations on and off the field."
 
Preston Ferry
 
Ferry has been with the Beacons for five years, playing in 40 games with 11 starts. As a freshman, he earned the Coaches Award. Preston has been an Academic All-Conference selection, and NAIA Scholar Athlete and a member of the Athletic Directors Honor Roll. In each of the past two years, Preston was also named Bushnell's Male Champion of Character Award Winner, and in 2023 he was named the winner of the Kendall Burke Award, Bushnell's highest honor awarded to a graduating senior. Coach Ehlers said, "Preston has made significant contributions to our soccer program. His is always trying to help both on and off the field and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. We were fortunate to have him for 5 years."
 
Arjuna Chotu
 
Arjuna has been with the Beacons for six seasons. He has played in 31 games for the Beacons and has made seven starts. He is a two-time Academic All-CCC selection. Coach Ehlers said, "Arjuna is a hard worker. He was able to share his experience with the newer players and directly influenced in the quality of our games and training sessions."
 
Juan Palacios
 
Juan has been with the Beacons for five years and has played in 37 games, making 13 starts. He has two goals and two assists in his career and scored a game-winning goal against Walla Walla during his sophomore year. Coach Ehlers said, "Juan gave us great contributions during his time with our program, His ability to understand the game and play multiple positions helped us to perform better collectively in training sessions as well as in games."
