EUGENE, Ore. – On a soggy Friday afternoon, the Bushnell men's soccer team played their penultimate home game of the 2023 season, falling to Multnomah University 4-2.
Â
The Beacons (4-6-2, 0-6-1) owned a 21-10 advantage in shots and an 11-5 margin in shots-on-goal, but were unable to capitalize on enough attempts to overcome the Lions (3-8-1, 1-6-1) who pick up their first CCC victory of the season. The Beacons put it together after the intermission, out-shooting MU 15-5 over the final 45 minutes.
Â
"We played a very good second half tonight," said Head Coach
Joao Ehlers. "We were aggressive in the final third and we were able to put away some of the chances we created. Multnomah was more efficient and scored in important moments in the game."
Â
Multnomah scored twice in the opening half, and made it 3-0 before the Beacons finally found the back of the net in the 60th minute.
Omar Barajas collected the ball after his own corner kick, and fired in a cross that found the head of
Jay Jay Van Der Velde, making it 3-1.
Â
The Barajas-to-Van Der Velde connection work score again in the 75th minute as the latter collected a rebound off a saved free-kick by the Barajas and scored his second of the night.
Â
Bushnell will play their final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking on Warner Pacific at 4:30 pm. Seniors
Preston Ferry,
Ethan Ferry,
Juan Palacios, and
Arjuna Chotu will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
