Slifka Leads Beacons Past Eagles, 78-61

EUGENE, Ore. – Aspen Slifka continued her climb in the record book, moving into third place on Bushnell's all-time scoring list, as the Beacons took down Northwest, 78-61, in Friday's Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball contest.

Slifka passed Lindsey Shearer (1,206) after finishing with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals on the night. The junior needs just 25 points to move into second on the list.

"We had a lot of drives by Aly and Haley that gave me open looks," said Slifka. "They were attacking and drawing defenders and I was just finding the gaps. We were having assists left and right and sharing the ball which we hadn't been doing a great job of over the last few games. We were playing team ball today."

The Beacons (14-6, 11-4 CCC) took a 33-23 into the break and led by as many as 25 points midway through the fourth quarter. The Eagles (5-14, 3-11) were unable to make up ground despite shooting 10-of-13 in the final period.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "I thought we did a great job in the second half of not turning the ball over. We really tightened it up in the third quarter and did a fantastic job in the press. I am super pleased with our overall performance aside from our defense that last eight minutes. We want to finish those games a little bit better."

Bushnell forced 22 turnovers and outrebounded Northwest, 52-32, which included a 29-11 difference in offensive boards. The Eagles shot 44.6% from the floor but made just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. The Beacons shot 38.2% from the field, and also struggled from three, making 5-of-27.

Haley Hanson, who recorded nine points, said, "Our goal was to share the ball more and swing it around and I thought we did that tonight. Another thing we did well was rebound. We had more offensive rebounds than defensive rebounds meaning we got 29 extra chances compared to their 11. That's huge. If we can keep on doing that, we have the upper hand no matter what."

Bella Pedrojetti finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Libby Mathis added 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Kalina Rojas recorded eight points and nine rebounds.

Maya DuChesne led the Eagles in scoring, finishing with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Kylie Lunday posted 12 points and five rebounds, while Grace Harder added 10 points off the bench.
