Corban Sweeps Beacons in Conference Clash

PHOTO GALLERY | EUGENE, Ore.  – History was not able to repeat itself on Wednesday night as No. 5 Corban avenged last season's loss in Eugene, knocking off the Beacons in three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-16.

The Beacons (6-5, 1-2 CCC) who are currently receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll, jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set, but it was all Corban from there as the reigning CCC champions out-hit the Beacons .330 to .092, keeping the Beacon outside hitters to a negative hitting percentage.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "Corban is a good team and they came ready to play tonight. We have work to do if we want to accomplish our goals in this very tough conference."

In the loss, Jessica Northcutt led the way with nine kills and nine digs while Makenna Northern posted a match-high 24 assists with nine digs of her own. Callie Wilkins led the Beacons with 10 digs while Halle Neumann, making another start in the middle, hit .455 with five kills and a pair of blocks.

Corban (9-2, 2-1) held a 9-4 advantage on the block, out-dug the Beacons 54-46, and had a 4-0 advantage in service aces. Rylee Troutman led the team with a 18-kill performance, going without an attack error as she hit .667. Avari Ridgeway added 10 kills and matched the evening-high with 13 digs. Ally Schmidt posted six blocks to lead all players, along with a pair of aces.

The Beacons will continue their homestand this weekend, taking on Warner Pacific on Friday at 7:00 pm and Multnomah on Saturday at 5:00 pm. Both teams are 0-2 on the season.
