EUGENE, Ore. – It was a strong performance by the Bushnell men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, but the back of the net proved elusive in a 2-0 loss to Eastern Oregon University in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Â
The Beacons (3-5-1, 1-3 CCC) were out-shot 14-11 in the match but had a 6-4 edge in shots-on-goal, including three for freshman
Caleb Premo. Bushnell also held a strong 5-0 discrepancy in corner-kicks, but couldn't produce a score.
Â
Eastern (5-3-1, 2-2) got on the board in the 25th minute as Carlos Murillo's cross into the box made its way across the mouth of the goal, off the far post and in for what would become the game winner. Max Rose went on to give the visitors an insurance strike after winning a 1-v-1 opportunity and putting it in the net.
Â
Diego Montes Carrera collected two saves in goal for the Beacons while a pair of EOU keepers earned three saves apiece, each playing 45 minutes.
Â
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "This was a tough loss as the guys played well and fought hard and probably deserved a better outcome. We look forward to fixing a couple aspects during next week's training and preparing for a weekend ahead in Portland."
Â
The Beacons travel to take on Warner Pacific (8-0, 3-0) next Friday at 2:30 pm and then Multnomah (4-3-1, 1-2) on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Â
