EUGENE, Ore. – A closely contested match finished with a 2-1 road victory for the Carroll College Fighting Saints over the Bushnell Beacons on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer action.
Â
Carroll (2-2-1, 1-1 CCC) out-shot the Beacons (3-3-1, 1-1), 15-13 and held a 6-5 edge in shots-on-goal.
Â
A competitive first half nearly came to a scoreless conclusion, but with just over a minute remaining in the frame, Darin Chavers took a pass from Rory Bloy and scored to give Carroll a 1-0 lead.
Â
Bloy scored what would become the game-winner in the 62nd minute after a miscue by the Beacons. After collecting the ball and preparing to reset the offense, Bushnell's keeper waited a little to long before letting go as he threw the ball from just outside the 18-yard box and was called for a hand ball penalty. Bloy took the ensuing free-kick and fired home the strike.
Â
The Beacons responded, taking the only three shots-on-goal of the final 30 minutes and came through with a goal in the 74th minute to avoid the shutout as Alejandro successfully connected on a penalty kick.
Â
A few minutes later, Bushnell came within inches of tying the contest, but an open opportunity went across the mouth of the goal and trickled out of bounds just beyond the post.

Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "Tonight was a difficult game against a very physical opponent. We made some collective mistakes during the first half that forced us to change our strategy in the second half. I am proud of the team spirit we showed tonight and I believe we deserved a better outcome based on the opportunities that we created."
Â
The Beacons will remain home as CCC play resumes next weekend, hosting The College of Idaho (3-2-1, 1-1) on Friday at 3:00 pm.
