EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell defeated Multnomah on Saturday evening, 25-18, 25-13, 25-15, giving
Jason Corwin his 74th career coaching victory at the helm of the Beacons.
Â
In just his fifth season, Corwin becomes the all-time winningest coach for Bushnell, breaking a record which had stood since 2013. He is 74-48 with the Beacons, and holds a 146-130 collegiate coaching record when including his previous seasons with Oregon Tech.
Â
"It has been my great honor to represent Bushnell Volleyball," said Corwin. "The success we have experienced happens because of a supportive athletic department, an amazing coaching staff, and most importantly the right kind of student-athletes. We have fantastic athletes who are great people, dedicated to their teammates, and fierce competitors who love the game. I am thankful for every athlete past and present who has helped Bushnell volleyball continue to grow and improve."
Â
Some of Bushnell's seniors lined up to give their thoughts on what Coach Corwin has meant for them.
Â
Jessica Northcutt said, "I have always admired Jason's resilience and drive. He is constantly looking for ways to improve and do what is best for the team. I feel extremely blessed that I got the opportunity to meet such amazing girls in this program and credit is due to Jason for recruiting good character athletes and building a successful program."
Â
Jason has definitely been my favorite coach in all my years of playing volleyball," added
Halle Neumann. "In addition to leading a successful program, he has a big heart and cares for us as individuals. I appreciate that Jason has confidence in my abilities as an athlete and that he trusts me as a person. I have had a great experience with the Bushnell volleyball program and I cannot wait to see what this season holds for us."
Â
Peyton Ritchie said, "Jason has been my longest coach, dating back to club when I was a sophomore in high school. It has been amazing to have been a part of a winning program led by such a determined coach. He brings out the best in all of us and it has been an honor to take part in the program. The future is still bright."
Â
Payton Jones said, "When I was getting recruited, Jason made it clear where he wanted to take this program and what his goals were. He has been determined to turn this program around and has done just that in such a short amount of time. He continually makes an effort to improving his coaching and learn more about the game of volleyball to allow us to grow as a team and I am proud to call him my coach. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish while playing my final season for him."
Â
"When my previous school closed, Jason reached out and provided me a home," said
Callie Wilkins. "He has always treated me as one of his own and I will always be extremely grateful for him giving me another chance to play collegiate volleyball. I am proud to be a Beacon and I credit Coach with giving me that opportunity."
Â
Finally, two-time All-American and fifth-year senior
Makenna Northern said, "Jason is the best coach I have ever had. Coming into this program five years ago he told me to trust him and from that point on I never once have doubted him. He has made my time at this school nothing but good and I am so glad to have been a part of his team for five years."
Â
As for the match, it was smooth sailing once again for the Beacons (8-5, 3-2 CCC), who needed to take just one time out on the night, their first of the weekend. Early in the third set she crossed the 500-kill plateau for her career, becoming just the tenth place in school history and fifth Middle Blocker to do so.
