This Week in Bushnell Athletics

The Beacon soccer and volleyball teams are at home this week while cross country and golf make their season debuts on the road.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Thursday 9/1 vs. George Fox, 4:30 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)

Bushnell (0-2) fell to Pacific Union College in their only road trip of the preseason schedule. Blake Danna recorded the first goal of the season for the Beacons in the 4-1 loss.

The Beacons rebounded in Sunday's exhibition match with Willamette University, posting a 2-0 win in one of the highest attended matches in school history. Every Bushnell Athletics team participated in a food drive prior to the contest before making their way out to Civic Park. Although the match doesn't officially count in the win column, it was a memorable day for the team in front of a packed crowd.

Sophomores Emily Puita and Sydney Petersen each scored a goal on the match.

Bushnell returns to Civic Park on Thursday to take on George Fox. The Bruins, who finished third in the Northwest Conference last season with a 12-6-2 record, fell in their first match of the year against Northwest, 3-0.

The Bruins hold a 3-0-1 advantage in the all-time series, last defeating the Beacons in 2019.

MEN'S SOCCER

Thursday 9/1 vs. George Fox, 7:00 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)

Bushnell (1-2) dropped their only contest last week, falling to Park University-Gilbert, 7-3. Sophomore Caleb Burke was the highlight, securing the first hat-trick for the Beacons since 2018.

Burke has now scored four of Bushnell's five goals this season. His career total has bumped up to six, putting him in the career top-ten list.

Once again the team will play just one match on the week, welcoming George Fox University for a non-conference game at Civic Park. It will be the first match of the season for the Bruins, who went 6-12 last season.

The Bruins hold a 4-1 lead in the all-time series and defeated Bushnell at home last year, 2-1.

VOLLEYBALL
Friday 9/2 vs. College of Idaho, 7:00 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)
Saturday 9/3 vs. #12 Eastern Oregon, 5:00 pm (Livestats | Video Stream)

Bushnell (5-3) comes in after a big weekend, going 4-0 at the William Jessup Invitational without dropping a single set.

It will be another big weekend as the Beacons are set to open up Cascade Collegiate Conference action and play their first home games of the season against The College of Idaho on Friday and Eastern Oregon on Saturday.

The Yotes (1-6) head into the CCC schedule on a six-game losing streak. C of I finished last season in seventh place in the conference with an 11-11 mark while going 14-16 overall. The Beacons won both meetings between the schools, 3-0. After going 1-24 through the first 25 meetings, Bushnell has now won six straight.

Eastern Oregon (7-1) has had a huge preseason with five Top-25 wins to their credit, including a victory over No. 2 Jamestown for the Jimmies only loss of the season.

EOU swept the home-and-home with the Beacons last year and have won 20 straight in the series, dating back to 2013. They are now 30-3 all-time against Bushnell.

CROSS COUNTRY
Thursday 9/1 at Lewis & Clark Opener, 6:00 pm (Livestats)

The Bushnell men's and women's cross country teams will make their official 2022 debut on Thursday evening, running in the Lewis & Clark Opener at Lake Oswego Public Golf Course.

The Lewis & Clark Opener holds a unique format as a "Chase Race" with the women starting just 90 seconds after the men and both races finishing around the same time. It is a shortened course with the women running a three-mile span and the men going four miles.

GOLF
Monday 9/5 – Tuesday 9/6 at Corban University Invitational

The Bushnell University golf program gets its season underway this coming week as the team competes at the Corban Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The Beacons will play at the Salishan Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, Ore.
