SALEM, Ore. – Freshmen
Eden Rosensteel and
Luke Phillips led their teams on Saturday as the Bushnell women's and men's cross country teams competed in the George Oja Invitational in Independence, Ore.
A memorable debut campaign for Rosensteel continued as she posted the 12th-fastest 6000-meter time in school history, taking 83rd place with a time of 22:49.2. "Eden was disappointed, as she wanted to break 22:30," said Head Coach
Kyle Will. "Her goal is to make it to the NAIA National Championship, and so we just need to keep her healthy as she finishes strong."
She was followed by
Cadence Smith, who also lands in the all-time top-25 with her season-best time of 24:00.9, taking 139th. The scoring was rounded out by
Alyssa Clark (214th, 25:17.3),
Jordan Lauinger (234th, 25:51.1), and
Sidney Lane (245th, 26:08.9). For Lauinger is was also a season-low time.
Also competing for the ladies were
Brooklyn Beecher and
Annika Kimball.
The Beacons finished in 24th-place as a team.
The women's team is a little tired, with a few of them training for the marathon so their legs are tired. We still had a good day and kind of matched where we are so far this season. It was a crazy week with midterms and all of that, so I am not disappointed at all."
Over half of the men's competitors earned new personal records on Saturday, with a trio of Freshmen leading the charge. Phillips claimed 124th-place (25:57.6) and became the first Beacon this season to break 26 minutes.
Sawyer Miller followed in 141st (26:05.7) while
Josiah Swick took 192nd (26:36.5).
Also hitting new PRs were
Wyatt Pepiot(350th, 29:08.9),
James Bechtol (369th, 30:13.3), and
Jackson Engstrom (389th, 31:25.0).
The scoring runners also including
Hunter Davis in 298th (28:00.7) and
Ben Patterson in 333rd (28:44.7) as the Beacons took 25th-place.
Also competing for the men were
Ben Carter and
Andrew Thurman.
Coach Will said, "The guys had a great race today. I am really excited for them with so many PRs. They continue to run really, really well and I am very impressed with their mindset and mentality."
Up Next: The Beacons have completed their final regular-season competition and will now head to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, taking place on November 6 in Lewiston, Idaho at the Lewis-Clark State College Cross Country Trail.
"I think having a couple weeks now to focus on training and get some rest is a good thing," said Coach Will. "We just need to keep moving in the right direction as we prepare for conference."
