ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Bushnell volleyball team finished off a perfect weekend with another pair of 3-0 sweeps, led by the senior duo of
Makenna Northern and
Jessica Northcutt.

The Beacons defeated host William Jessup in the morning session before moving to 22-1 all-time against Simpson University with a sweep of the lunchtime contest to improve to 4-0 in the tournament.

Northern broke another career record for the Beacons as she played in her 393rd set to break Dana McGowan's record which had stood for the past nine years.

Northcutt capped off a strong weekend with another pair of sturdy performances, combining for 25 kills in just six sets while hitting .357. Â

"It feels good to come in and take care of business," said Northern. "We have some tough games ahead so this gives us some confidence."

Northcutt added, "Our team was resilient this weekend and unwilling to drop a set. I love our determination and drive. Each member brings something to the table and when we string it all together, great things happen."

Bushnell had contributions from all over the court against the Warriors. Northcutt began her day with ten kills, hitting .333 and adding ten digs for a double-double.

The Beacons out-blocked WJU, 8-2, getting three from Peyton Jones and five from Matty Ladd.
Callie Wilkins contributed a match-high 13 digs while
Shay Coons,
Halle Neumann, and Jones posted six kills apiece.

Northern was equally impressive with 23 assists, eight digs and three blocks while also hitting .462 with seven kills. Â Â

Jessup (2-2) hit just .082 as a unit and were led by nine kills from Marina Gonzalez.

The Beacons closed out the tournament with another solid win, hitting .286. They added eight service aces with Wilkins, Northern, and Northcutt grabbing two apiece.

Northcutt averaged five kills per set, collecting 15 as she hit .375 with ten more digs for another double-double. Coons and Neumann posted seven kills apiece while Jones collected six kills and three blocks.

"This weekend felt great, playing together as a team," said Jones. "It helped us gain confidence in each other and allowed us to work on what we expect on our side of the net."

The Red Hawks (0-7) were led by Madelyn Frick with 13 kills and Emily Melo with 11 digs.

"We are so proud of our team going back to back matches and continuing to stay focused while holding to our standard of play," said head coach
Jason Corwin. "We are looking forward to a good week of practice for the start of conference. The matchups will be tough and we will be aggressively preparing and working hard."

Bushnell comes home on Friday, playing their home opener and conference opener against The College of Idaho (1-7) at 7:00 pm.
