No. 6 Yotes Sweep Beacons

CALDWELL, Idaho – No. 6 College of Idaho secured the series sweep over visiting Bushnell University on Saturday with a 10-3 win in the Cascade Collegiate Conference game followed by a 7-5 victory in the non-conference contest at Symms Field.

Bushnell (8-26, 5-14 CCC) committed nine errors on the day, accounting for nine unearned runs for the College of Idaho (32-8, 17-4). The Beacons hung in offensively with the Yotes as they were outhit just 9-8 in the series finale.  

Game One: College of Idaho 10, Bushnell 3

Sam Silver opened the morning with a solo home run to left center in the second inning, her second of the weekend, repeating her first at-bat from yesterday's opener.

The Yotes answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame, all unearned due to four errors by the Beacons. The visitors added two more in the third, both unearned, to make it an 8-1 lead.

Jordan Kuykendall hit an RBI-single in the fourth before Suzi Krstic brought home one more in the fifth on a double through the left side to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Yotes got both runs back with one in both the fifth and sixth to seal the 10-3 win.

Sam Silver (4-10) pitched a strong line for the Beacons, allowing just two earned runs on 10 hits. Eight runs were unearned as Bushnell finished the contest with six errors.

Katelyn Wilfert (11-3) allowed three runs on six hits through five innings of work for the Yotes. Hannah McNerney did not give up a hit in two innings of relief.

Game Two: College of Idaho 7, Bushnell 5

The Beacons got out to another early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Anabel Mendez, who finished 3-for-4 at the plate, brought home the first run with a single to right. The next came on a groundout by Silver to plate Krstic.

The Yotes got on the board in the bottom half, but the Beacons answered with a run on a sacrifice fly by Aliyah Kelly in the top of the second.

C of I put up four runs in the fourth inning with two coming on a home run by Makenna Luke to take a 5-3 lead.

The Yotes maintained a slim lead for the remainder of the game, holding the Beacons to two runs through the next four innings. Krystal Akagi stole home on a double steal in the fourth and Mendez hit a solo homer in the seventh.

Kelly (3-12) took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Mendez led the Beacons offensively but Kuykendall also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for 3.

Ambrie Jones (4-0) went four innings for the Yotes, giving up three earned runs on six hits. McNerney recorded the save, allowing one run on two hits in three innings of work.

Bushnell will prepare for a doubleheader at Corban on Tuesday, April 12 to finish off the conference series with the Warriors. The Beacons took game one, 7-3, on March 8.
