Beacons Fall Twice at No. 6 Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – Bushnell University dropped both games to No. 6 College of Idaho, 5-1 and 10-1, in Friday afternoon's Cascade Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader at Symms Field.

The Beacons fall to 8-24 overall and 5-13 in conference play. The Yotes improve to a 30-8 overall record with a 16-4 mark in CCC action. The sides will finish off the series tomorrow with games at 10 a.m. and noon.

Game One: College of Idaho 5, Bushnell 1

The opener was a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the sixth as there were a combined four hits between the sides entering the frame. The Yotes doubled that count in the inning, bringing in four runs on four hits to eliminate Bushnell's chance at an upset.

Sam Silver (4-9) recorded the only hit for the Beacons, a solo home run to right center in the top of the third. Silver also pitched all six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Katelyn Wilfert (10-3) got the start in the circle for the Yotes, allowing just one hit in the complete game effort, striking out eight batters.

Game Two: College of Idaho 10, Bushnell 1 (5 innings)

Lexi Navarrete capped off a six-run fourth inning with a grand slam to power the Yotes to a win via run rule. Navarrete went 2-for-2 with five RBIs on the game.

Jordan Kuykendall finished 2-for-2 at the plate and brought in a run for the Beacons with an RBI-single in the top of the second.

Aliyah Kelly (3-11) went three innings in the circle for Bushnell, allowing four runs on seven hits. Leslie Reynaga pitched 0.2 innings in the fourth before Breana Hilton recorded the final out.

Hannah McNerney (10-2) pitched game two for the Yotes, allowing one run on seven hits in five innings of work.
