SOFTBALL PREVIEW (5-9 Overall, 3-3 CCC)
Tuesday 3/8 vs Corban, 4:00 pm (Livestats|Video Stream)

Bushnell  (5-9 overall, 3-3 CCC) returns to the field after being swept by Eastern Oregon over the weekend. The Beacons fell 9-4 and 12-6 on Friday before being shut out on Saturday, 4-0 and 2-0.

The starting pitcher for the Mountaineers, Amanda Smith, did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning in the opener as the visitors held an 8-0 advantage. The Beacons cut the deficit to 8-2 by the bottom of the sixth but were unable to inch their way back, putting up just two more in the bottom of the seventh. The Bushnell offense was highlighted by RBI-triples from both Jordan Kuykendall and Madison Steelman. Game two appeared to be the opposite story as Bushnell got out to a 6-1 lead in the first inning. However, Eastern Oregon scored 11 unanswered runs to secure the Friday sweep.

The Beacons were shut out by the Mountaineers on Saturday. Early errors were the story in the first game as Bushnell recorded four through the opening three frames. Sam Silver pitched all 14 innings for the Beacons, allowing just three earned runs on the afternoon.

MEET THE BEACONS: Aliyah Kelly and Sam Silver make up the starting pitching duo for the Beacons. Kelly, a freshman, has recorded a 3.09 ERA through six starts. Silver holds a 3.45 ERA and has pitched five complete games.

Mendez ranks second in the conference in batting average (.488), third in on-base percentage (.549) and is fourth in slugging (.814). The senior has a team-high 16 RBIs and all three home runs for the Beacons this season. Bryana Yoshida has made the most of her time at the plate. The junior is hitting .500 with three RBIs. Alyssa Ferreira is batting .333 and leads the conference with three triples.

Faith Wayman has been consistent as the starting catcher for the Beacons. The sophomore has caught six runners stealing, ranking her second in the CCC.

As a team, Bushnell is batting .284, eighth in the CCC and rank fifth in the conference with a 3.21 ERA through 14 games. Despite last weekend's defensive struggles, the Beacons lead the conference in double plays, turning 10 on the season.

MEET THE WARRIORS: Corban (8-12, 3-3) is coming off a tough weekend series with No. 2 College of Idaho, dropping all four games against the Yotes. The Warriors had swept Carroll College (Mont.) the weekend prior to start conference play on a high note.

Corban is batting.295 as a team, sixth in the CCC, with an eighth-best 6.62 ERA. The Warriors attempt the most stolen bases in the conference and have been successful on 38 occasions, third in the conference. However, they have been caught stealing 14 times, which is nine more than the second team on the list.

The Warriors are led by Maddie Ogles at the plate, who is batting .386 with six doubles and 10 RBIs. Holly Gonzales and Alise Olson have split much of the time in the circle for Corban. Gonzales leads the Warriors with a 3.37 ERA and 32 strikeouts.
Corban holds a 49-15 advantage in the all-time series. The Warriors won three of four last season.
