SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University shut out host Bushnell University on Saturday afternoon, 4-0 and 2-0, to earn the sweep in the Cascade Collegiate Conference softball series.
Sam Silver (pictured) pitched all 14 innings for Bushnell (5-9, 3-3 CCC), allowing just three earned runs on the afternoon. Â
GAME ONE: Eastern Oregon 4, Bushnell 0
Mckenna Stallings (3-2) and Amanda Smith combined for the shutout in Saturday's opener. Stallings pitched the first four innings, allowing five hits on the game. Smith did not allow a hit in the final three innings to secure her third save of the season.
The Mountaineers scored all four of their runs in the top of the second. Caitlin Crist hit a three-run triple to left center and Madison Stateler brought her home with a sacrifice fly. Â
Early errors cost the Beacons as they recorded four through the opening three frames.
Silver allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with one walk in seven innings of work.
GAME TWO: Eastern Oregon 2, Bushnell 0
Smith (5-1) stayed in the circle for game two and posted another strong outing for the Mountaineers, allowing just three hits in the finale.
Stateler singled through the left side in the top of the first to bring in the first run for Eastern. Rhyanne Oates crossed the plate in the top of the fifth on an error to make it a 2-0 lead. Â
Silver was the starting pitcher for the Beacons for the third straight game. The senior allowed just two runs (one earned) on seven hits.
Up next, Bushnell hosts Corban University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 8. The first game starts at 1 p.m. at Rich Schwab Field.
