No. 8 Southern Oregon Finishes Series Sweep Over Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – No. 8 Southern Oregon University used 29 hits to secure the series sweep over Bushnell University, winning 11-3 and 13-4 in Saturday's softball doubleheader.

Bushnell drops to 6-20 overall and 4-9 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Game One: Southern Oregon 11, Bushnell 3 (5 innings)

Southern Oregon (27-7, 11-3 CCC) scored five runs in the second inning and six more in the fourth in the conference counting opener. Five Raiders recorded two hits in the balanced offensive effort, tallying 14 as a team on the game.

Braydi Johnson, Suzi Krstic and Faith Wayman each drove in a run for the Beacons. Madison Steelman recorded her third triple of the season in the bottom of the fifth.

Phelicity Fa'aita (6-1) pitched all five innings for the Raiders, allowing three runs on five hits.

Game Two: Southern Oregon 13, Bushnell 4

Bushnell held a 3-1 lead through four innings in the non-conference finale before the Raiders piled on 12 runs in the remaining three innings to secure the four-game sweep.

Krystal Akagi (pictured) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Beacons. Akagi brought in the first two runs with singles in the first and third innings. Jordan Kuykendall extended the lead with a double to right field in the bottom of the fourth.

The Raiders offense got going in the top of the fifth, finding six runs in the frame to go up 7-3. Krstic narrowed the margin to three for Bushnell with a single to center in the bottom half but SOU would go on to score three runs in each of the final two innings.

Fa'aita and Ashton Cathey each recorded a home run for the Raiders. Deja Acosta and Riley Donovan both finished 4-for-5 at the plate. Donovan recorded four RBIs, while Fa'aita added three.

Katie Machado (9-3) was the winning pitcher for the Raiders, allowing two earned runs on six hits through 3.1 innings of work. Cayla Williams recorded the save, holding the Beacons to one hit in the remaining 2.1 innings.

Aliyah Kelly (2-9) pitched all 12 innings for the Beacons on Saturday, allowing 15 hits in the closing contest.

Up next, Bushnell hosts Carroll College (Mont.) on April 1-2 at Rich Schwab Field.
