Beacons Remain Undefeated in CCC Play

LA GRANDE, Ore.  – Facing off against Eastern Oregon University for the first time, the Bushnell baseball team won a pair on Saturday to improve to 6-0 in Cascade Conference play and spoiling the Mounties home opener in the process.

Bushnell moves to 8-20 overall and remains alone in first-place in the CCC while EOU moves to 7-24 overall and 0-6 in conference.

GAME ONE: Bushnell 5, Eastern Oregon 1

Putting in his second straight dominant outing on the hill, Senior Abbott Haffar (2-4) took a perfect game into the sixth inning as he retired the first 17 batters he faced. He finished the game allowing just one hit, a seventh-inning double, while striking out six. Trenton Hough picked up the save as he pitched the final two innings.

Most of the offensive damage for the Beacons came in a four-run third inning that featured three hits and a pair of EOU errors. Daniel Furman had an RBI single, scoring Reece Carganilla to highlight the inning.

The Beacons collected seven hits in the game with Carganilla (pictured) picking up a pair of runs.

GAME TWO: Bushnell 6, Eastern Oregon 4

The Beacons collected nine hits in game two, including a 3-for-3 game from Brandon Reed. The freshman catcher joined Jeff Fripp as the pair each collected two-run home runs in the third inning, giving the team a 5-1 lead at the time.

Reed was also instrumental on the final play of the game, tagging out a baserunner at home plate on a perfect throw from Furman for what would have made it a one-score game.

Adam Sabatino (2-3) got the win for the Beacons, allowing just one earned run over the first five innings while striking out a pair. Jayden Soriano claimed his second save of the season as he tossed four scoreless innings in relief.

After the game Reed said, "We did the little things today and everybody dialed in on their jobs. We went one pitch at a time and we came out with two good wins."

Haffar added, "We are finding our groove and it tastes good to win. We have two more big ones tomorrow and we want to keep moving forward."

The teams will square off again on Sunday, closing the four game series with a double-header beginning at 11:00 am.
