SPRINGIFLED, Ore. – No. 8 Southern Oregon powered its way to a pair of wins on Friday over the Bushnell University softball team, hitting three home runs to pick up 11-2 and 9-0 victories in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Rich Schwab Field.
Alyssa Ferreira recorded four hits on the day to lead Bushnell (6-18, 4-8 CCC). Â
Game One: Southern Oregon 11, Bushnell 2 (6 innings)
Cayla Williams (8-1) pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run to lead Southern Oregon (25-7, 10-3) in the opener. Williams did not allow an earned run, giving up just five hits with seven strikeouts.
SOU opened the game with five runs in the first and closed it with six runs in the sixth, posting 15 hits.
Braydi Johnson got the Beacons on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out infield single.
Bryana Yoshida was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the following at-bat to bring the score to 11-2 before Williams forced a groundout to end the rally.
Aliyah Kelly (2-7) threw all six innings for Bushnell, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) in the outing.
Game Two: Southern Oregon 9, Bushnell 0 (5 innings)
The Raiders shut out the Beacons in game two behind the arm of Katie Machado. Machado allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts.
Riley Donovan went 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and a double, bringing in four runs for Southern Oregon. Her two-run blast in the third gave the Raiders the 9-0 advantage to cap off the scoring. Â
Ferreira recorded both hits for Bushnell.
Breanna Hilton (1-1) got her first collegiate start, going all five innings for the Beacons. The freshman allowed nine runs on seven hits.
Bushnell and Southern Oregon finish off the series with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
