Bushnell Swept by Redhawks

REDDING, Calif.  – Bushnell closed out their weekend road trip on Saturday, falling twice to Simpson University, 12-3 and 10-5.

Head Coach Tommy Richards said, "This was a humbling weekend and we didn't execute at the level indicative of success. The first half of game two on Saturday was the most complete baseball we played all weekend. We will have to lead how to sustain that if we are going to be successful."

The first game featured a handful of bright spots for the Beacons, including the first triple of the season from Brandon Reed, but the team struggled at the plate as they struck out 13 times. Ethan Paulson took the loss on the mound after throwing the first four innings while Adam Sabatino came in for the final four innings.

Freshman Jahshua Yacapin got the call to start game four, and gave Bushnell their best pitching performance of the young season as he threw five scoreless innings, striking out three batters and scattering five hits. He left the game with a 4-0 lead.

"Jahshua and Adam were bright spots in an otherwise tough weekend," said Richards. "They competed well and showed the ability to stay within themselves and execute pitches."

Yacapin added, "It was good to get my first college outing under my belt. I wish it came with a team win, but it gave us something to build on. My focus was to pound the zone with my fastball and get ahead in counts."

In the second game the Beacons managed to collect ten hits, getting two apiece from Reece Carganilla, Noah Montoya, and Jacob Stoner. Peyton Hino (pictured) reached base four times and posted the first RBI of the game with a third-inning double.

The Bushnell Baseball season will continue next weekend when the Beacons (0-4) return to Northern California to take on William Jessup University (5-4) on Friday and Saturday in a pair of double-headers.
