SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Bushnell Baseball returned to action on Friday, falling in a double-header to Oregon Tech, 7-1 and 11-5 at Hamlin Sports Complex.
Â
Bushnell took the early lead in the opener, going ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second as
Kyle Casperson scored on a
Jacob Stoner single.
Â
Oregon Tech tied the game on a solo homer in the third, added a run in the fourth and blew it open in with five runs over the final two innings.
Â
Ethan Sachs (0-3) got the start for the Beacons and went six innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five batters in his most productive outing thus far.
Â
The Owls threw their number one starter, Dylan Grogan (4-0), who struck out five batters in seven innings and gave up just his third earned run of the season. Grogan gave up five hits including two to Casperson, as well as a double to
Noah Montoya.
Â
The Beacon bats were more effective in game two, collecting 12 hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome the offensive firepower of the Owls. Oregon Tech pounded out 13 hits including three home runs and built an 8-0 lead before Bushnell could get on the board.
Â
The home team was eventually able to get runs across, including a three-spot in the bottom of the fifth. Stoner scored on an RBI single down the right field line by
Jeff Fripp, Montoya scored on a passed ball, and Fripp came around and touched home plate on an RBI hit-by-pitch for
Brendan Frazier.
Â
Frazier also had a triple in the game, while
Dylan Martin added two stolen bases. Frazier, Fripp, Stoner and
Reece Carganilla had two hits apiece for the Beacons.
Â
Adam Sabatino (0-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs over four innings of work.
Jayden Soriano threw the final five outs, and struck out a pair without allowing a run.
Â
Patrick Arman (1-1) struck out 11 Beacon hitters in six innings of work to claim the victory while Brodie Maloney threw the final three innings to pick up a save.
Â
Bushnell and Oregon Tech will return for two more games on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am.
