Bushnell will play their first home games in over 50 years, and their first games ever at the Hamlin Sports Complex, when they play host to conference foes Corban University and Oregon Tech in a crossover series. The Beacons will face Corban three times and OIT once, while the Owls and Warriors will also play each other on Saturday at 11:00 am.
Â
LAST WEEKEND: Making their second trip to Northern California, the Beacons were swept in a four-game series with William Jessup.
Jacob Stoner provided an offensive spark for the Beacons. In the second game, he became the first Beacon of the NAIA-era to post a two-home run game, finishing with three RBI. He added two more hits and three more RBI in the opener on day two.
Â
Once again,
Jahshua Yacapin threw a solid game for the Beacons, striking out four batters and allowing just two runs on four hits over five innings in game four.
Â
EARLY LEADERS: Stoner and
Peyton Hino have been the early leaders for the Beacons at the plate, each posting eight hits for the Beacons, while
Kyle Casperson (pictured) holds a .500 batting average. Stone also leads the team with seven runs and four extra-base hits while
Jordan Wilson owns a Beacon-best seven RBI.
Â
On the mound, Yacapin now holds a 1.80 ERA with seven strikeouts in ten innings of work.
Colby Knutzen is holding opponents to a .188 batting average and has a 3.60 ERA in five innings.
Â
MEET THE WARRIORS: Bushnell will face off against Corban three times this weekend, launching the Willamette Valley rivalry into a new era and a new sport. Thus far, the Warriors are 3-4-1 on the season and come in on the heels of a 1-3 weekend against Ottawa University Arizona.
Â
Last season, Corban finished in third-place in the CCC standings and qualified for the post-season with a 22-31 record (16-16 CCC).
Â
Jeffrey Maxwell leads the offense, hitting .538. Cale Thompson is batting .464 and has team-highs with 13 hits, three doubles, and seven RBI.
Â
As a team, Corban is last in the conference, batting .258, but they lead the CCC with a 2.86 ERA.
Â
Zach Simon is 1-1 on the mound, but had earned a 0.00 ERA through ten innings of work. He has struck out 16 batters and given up two unearned runs on six hits. Drew Scherrer has earned a save and has come out of the bullpen for 8.1 innings, striking out nine without allowing a run.
Â
MEET THE OWLS: Oregon Tech is 7-5 on the young season and went 1-3 at a recent tournament in Arizona. The also went 3-1 against both Simpson and William Jessup, common opponents of the Beacons.
Â
Last season OIT was the runner-up in the Cascade Conference, going 23-24, 18-14 in CCC action.
Â
The Owls are third in the CCC in hitting (.288) and third for pitching (4.93 ERA), although they have struck out more collective hitters than any team.
Â
With seven players hitting over .300, Oregon Tech's Kaleb Keelean has emerged at the top, hitting .395 with 15 hits and a team-best 14 RBI and eight stolen bases. He is one of three players with six extra-base hits. Tyler Horner and Dalton Daily each have four home runs, tied for the Cascade Conference lead.
Â
Dylan Grogan leads the pitching staff. In his three starts he is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA, striking out a CCC-best 28 batters in 16 innings. Cody Dubray is 3-0 in his starts and has a shutout to his credit. He has also thrown 16 innings and has better than a 7-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Â
ON THE HORIZON: Bushnell will be home again next weekend, playing a four-game series with Oregon Tech. Friday's double-header will begin at 2:00 pm with Saturday's starting at 11:00 am. Â
