PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Bushnell University men's basketball team took on NCAA Division I University of Portland in an exhibition contest on Tuesday evening, a late addition to the schedule, falling 84-39 at the Chiles Center.

Eddie Alexander said, "Great experience against a team that is bigger, faster and stronger. This was a great opportunity for our guys to identify things they can work on and improve on in the off-season. We really appreciate Coach Legans and UP for the opportunity to compete this evening."

Bushnell held its ground through the opening 10 minutes of play, trailing 16-14 at the 09:20 mark, before Portland took off. The Pilots held the Beacons to four points through the remainder of the half, using a 28-4 run to take a 44-18 lead into the break. Â

The Pilots cruised the rest of the way, extending their lead to as much as 45 on their final basket.

Stevie Schlabach finished with 15 points on 5-for-11 shooting to lead the Beacons.
Keishon Dawkins led the team is rebounding with six on the night. Bushnell shot 21.3% on the night, including 3-of-24 from beyond the arc. The Beacons made 71.4% (10-14) of their free throw attempts.

Chika Nduka, Kristian Sjolund and Tyler Robertson finished with 11 points apiece for the Pilots. Nduka added 14 rebounds to record a double-double. The Pilots shot 40.3% from the floor, including 6-of-29 from three-point range and finished 77.8% at the free throw line. Portland recorded 28 of its points at the free throw line.

Bushnell closes out the season this weekend on the road, taking on Northwest (Feb. 18) and Evergreen (Feb. 19).
