Beacons Drop a Pair to William Jessup

ROCKLIN, Calif.  – William Jessup University completed another double-header sweep on Saturday, defeating the Beacons 14-5 and 7-2.

The Warriors (9-4) were able to emerge victorious late in both contests, scoring nine runs over their final inning of the two games. Bushnell (0-8) collected 13 hits in the opener but were kept to just one hit in the second game.

"It was a tough day today," said Head Coach Tommy Richards. "We set a bad tone with poor pitching and defense in game one. We came out and battled early in game two but we just need to do a better job in innings after we score. Errors were the catalyst in allowing big innings."

GAME ONE: William Jessup 15, Bushnell 5

In one of the most exciting games of the young season, Bushnell and Jessup traded leads four times, with WJU taking a 8-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.

Jacob Stoner (pictured) had another great game at the plate for the Beacons, batting 2-for-4 with three RBI. His RBI single in the second inning tied the game while his two-run single in the fourth gave Bushnell their first lead at 3-2. Kyle Casperson added a three-hit game while Peyton Hino and Jacob Richardson each had two hits for Bushnell.

Ethan Paulson started the game and went five strong for this visitors, allowing three earned runs while striking out three. Jessup's pitchers combined to strike out the Beacons 11 times.

GAME TWO: William Jessup 7, Bushnell 2 (7 Innings)

Jahshua Yacapin threw another solid game for the Beacons in the night cap, striking out four batters and allowing just two runs on four hits over five innings before claiming his second no-decision of the season.

Trailing 2-0, the Beacons tied the game in the top of the fifth as Jordan Wilson scored on an RBI fielders choice by Caleb Watson and Stoner scored on an error.

The Warriors, however, were able to tag reliever Abbott Haffar for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

The Beacons will return to action next weekend, playing their first home games of the season as they debut their home stadium at the Hamlin Sports Complex in Springfield. The OIT/CRB/BU Crossover begins on Friday as the Beacons take on Corban at 11:00 am, followed by a meeting with Oregon Tech at 2:00 pm.
